Vehicle Protection

The first recorded productionised  maintenance wax is said to have originated in the German city of Bischofsheim in the early 1800's, where they used wax made from animal fats to protect the lacquered paint of horse-drawn carriages. Since then vehicle protection has evolved significantly, in the mid-20th century there was a revolution of synthetic waxes and then polymer based sealants that offered enhanced gloss to paintwork, alongside increased water repellency and UV resistance from the sun. In more recent years, advanced ceramic coatings have revolutionised vehicle protection by creating a highly durable, hydrophobic and chemical-resistant layer on top of the clearcoat that can last for years, compared to older technologies that can only last for a matter of weeks and/or months depending on the product.

Paint Protection Film (PPF) is also a more modern approach to vehicle protection. Originating in the 1960's, PPF was initially developed by the US military to protect helicopter blades from sand erosion, it now has been commercialised to not only protect the paintwork from paint chips and scratches, but its also used to enhance colours and finishes of the areas its protecting.

Regardless of the level or complexity, all variations of vehicle protection from waxing all the way up to high-tech coatings and PPF's offer a superior defence for your paintwork, wheels & trim, preventing oxidation, dirt build up, water staining and of course chips and scratches. Have a look below at some of the vehicle protection services DRV has to offer.

Waxing

The age old go-to for vehicle protection that everybody has heard of - waxing. Whilst waxing is considered the most basic form of vehicle protection, it is still effective for a short while against all of the defects listed above. Most waxes tend to last anywhere between 2-8 weeks depending on exposure time to the elements and conditions in which the vehicle is driven.

Silicone Sealants & Ceramic Coatings

A more modern approach to vehicle protection. Silicone sealants are more durable than waxing and tend to last 8 weeks to 6 months depending on exposure time to the elements and conditions in which the vehicle is driven. Ceramic coatings are the next step up and the ones we offer at DRV can last up to 2 years guaranteed, possibly even longer. Note: coatings have a cure time from 1 hour to 24 hours depending on the product.

Paint Protection Film (PPF)

PPF is considered the ultimate vehicle protection service, lasting between 5 and 10 years given the vehicle is maintained properly during that time. Not only does it provide superior protection, PPF also possesses self-healing technologies. The chemical structure of the polymers that make up the material has a memory effect, and when heated, it becomes pliable and reflows back into its original shape.

Interior Coatings

Interior coatings are the newest phase of vehicle protection that has materialised over recent years. Whilst these coatings don't generally last as long as some of the more robust exterior coatings, interior protection is a great addition to ensure the longevity of your cabin and trim. They offer protection against UV rays and are highly hydrophobic, meaning your interior will not be subject to colour change from extended sunlight exposure and any accidental spills inside the vehicle do not stain and can be cleaned with ease.
